StruCad's Struwalker Features

Basic FEATURES

The most commonly used features are the Orbit, Pan and Zoom functions.

These can be activated at the top left menu shown below.

Default is orbit.

These features of the Struwalk program allow the viewer to zoom into any connection and orbit around

it to get an ultimate understanding of what exactly is happening with each connection.

BASIC HINTS

When using StruWalker, the user rarely has to select the pan or zoom feature. This can be done by using the following mouse hints.

  • Holding middle mouse button will zoom in and out.

  • Double click left mouse button will redirect the pivoting axis therefore eliminating the need for pan. (Using the scroll wheel of the mouse will also zoom in or out.)

  • Right click on an object and selecting HIDE will hide the member. (Right clicking the background and selecting SHOW ALL will restore it and any other hidden members)

ADVANCED FEATURES

Layers Off Feature

In this particular situation the purlins of the entire job were hidden to give more clarity.

All members can be singled out and hidden to the viewers discretion. Edges and faces of each member can also be hidden. (in both individual members and entire layers.)

Select - Attribute Display... -

By selecting Attribute Display there will be a number of features available to you.

This website will only outline features we believe to be important. Feel free to experiment as the model cannot be deleted using this program.

If you select purlins for example on the left of the panel it will highlight itself indicating PURLIN is selected.

The words in this column specify layers names which have been labeled by us, for your convenience.

By selecting HIDDEN, the purlins within the model will disappear.

By selecting EDGES, only the edges will reappear.

By selecting FACES, only the faces will reappear.

By selecting EDGES AND FACES, everything will restore to normal for that specified layer only.

Transparency Feature

Transparency Diagram

By right clicking the mouse on the background (This examples background is black) a menu will appear. (right)

Select - transparency...

A scroll bar will appear. Moving the marker from one side to the other will allow the viewer to make all members transparent.

The amount of transparency will depend on where the marker is placed on the scroll bar.

Moving the marker all the way down will leave only the connection details.

Locating a lost member

Example of a Find Mark precedure

Most struwalk users utilize FIND MARK to locate members they can see on a hard copy but are unable to visualise what and where it is exactly.

This program will allow any user to quickly find members by their mark number.

simply right click the back ground, and select - FIND MARK.

Select the mark from the drop down menu.

The Struwalker should find it instantly.

Enquire

When right clicking the mouse on a specific member, it's individual details can be opened.

By selecting ENQUIRE... a number of attributes are then displayed.

In most cases the following details will appear, for that member.

  • Mark
  • Stocksize
  • Member Number
  • Attributes -
  • Paint spec
  • Layer Name
  • Phase
  • Assembly
  • other - (other details that may be relevant)

Highlight Shop Fittings

To highlight shop fittings the struwalk operator right clicks on the desired member. Then by selecting the HIGHLIGHT SHOP FITTINGS... feature, the member will change colour.

(The colour for highlighting members is adjustable.)

The member selected will also highlight any cleats or plates that are shopped to that member.

See image on left for example.

Measure

The measure tool is located in the top left corner near the 'FILE' drop down menu. By selecting the measure button which is highlighted by a red circle, the user can get a measurement from one point to another. Sadly there is no snap to point feature in this program so measuring is usually VERY approximated.
